Queen of the Night
The Queen of the Night appears in this piece in a night-dark background with a spiderweb-like aureola, as she dreams of fulfilling her desire for vengeance. Her daughter has been taken away from her by the man who scorns her fury by presenting her as the very embodiment of Evil. On top of her voluptuous body is a somehow melancholic face. A small female vampire bat embraces her and seems to whisper advice in her ear. She has so much in her favor, the exuberance of her femininity, her radiance like the stars in the sky, the penetrating tone and intensity of her voice. She will work out her vengeance! But feathers fall from her attire, telling us that her defeat is imminent. —P.C.
